Men's Volleyball Falls To #5 Southern Virginia, Stevenson

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball fell to #5 Southern Virginia by a score of 3-1 on Saturday, February 5.

Southern Virginia (3-1 Overall) grabbed an early lead, racing out to a 5-1 lead. The Chargers (7-3 Overall) fought back with a kill by Caleb Roberts kicking off a 3-1 run. After the Chargers closed within three points, the Knights went on a 4-1 run grabbing control of the set. LBC tried to battle back with a block by Hunter Davis and Kole Horst bringing the Chargers within three. Dawson Forney made one final push, slamming down back-to-back kills to make the score 23-20. Southern Virginia held on to capture the first set 25-21.

The Chargers got off to a much better start in the second set, racing out to a 4-0 lead when Tanner Shertzer rocketed a service ace. LBC then launched into a 4-1 run capped off with a solo block from Hunter Davis making the score 7-2. The Knights did not go away, using a 5-0 run to close within a single point. Elijah Herb recaptured momentum for the Chargers, smashing a kill and firing a service ace to give LBC a 14-10 lead. The Chargers remained in control of the set with Horst reeling off back-to-back thunderous kills to close within one point of capturing the set. Davis closed out the set with one last kill.

LBC started strong again in the third set, quickly grabbing a 4-1 lead. Southern Virginia fought back, going on a 4-0 run to take a 5-4 lead. Later in the set, kills by Horst and Herb powered a 3-0 run to put the Chargers ahead 14-9. The Knights responded, using a 5-0 run to reclaim a 21-20 lead. After Herb put LBC ahead 23-22, Southern Virginia won three straight points to win the set 25-23. The Knights used their momentum to grab a 10-7 lead in the fourth set. Forney tried to close the gap, smashing a kill to help bring LBC back within a point. Southern Virginia slammed the door closed with a 7-0 run, allowing the Knights to cruise to the 25-19 set victory.

Inside the Numbers
- Elijah Herb led the Chargers' attack, hammering down 19 kills
- Kole Horst added nine kills in his return from injury
- Tanner Shertzer dished 35 assist and added five digs
- Konrad Martin anchored the Chargers' defense, digging 15 balls
- Southern Virginia was led by Nahuel Recabarren who had 12 kills

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team could not bounce back from their game one defeat, falling in straight sets for the second time this season to Stevenson University.

Stevenson (7-4 Overall) quickly took control of the opening set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. LBC (7-4 Overall) could not find their offensive rhythm, allowing the Mustangs to take an 11-3 lead. Elijah Herb finally picked up a kill, put the Chargers trailed by seven. LBC could not mount a rally, falling 25-12.

Herb picked up a pair of kills early in the second set, tying the set at 2. The Chargers capitalized on several Mustang errors taking a 7-6 lead. Stevenson regrouped and found their rhythm again, rallying to grab a 16-12 lead. After another kill by Herb, Stevenson used a 6-0 run to pull away and win the second set 25-18. The Chargers could not regain their momentum in the third set and the Mustangs used a 10-1 run midway through the set to pull away. Kole Horst smashed one last kill to try and start a rally, but Stevenson rolled to a 25-18 victory.

Inside the Numbers
- Elijah Herb led LBC's attack, posting seven kills
- Tanner Shertzer recorded 19 assists
- Hunter Davis added five kills
- Stevenson was led by Tim Flanagan who had 10 kills
