The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team put together their most impressive performance thus far, beating Lebanon Valley 3-1 and Mount Aloysius 3-1 on Saturday. The Chargers were all over the floor as they filled the stat sheet, recording career-highs and a great team performance. Both wins move the Chargers to 7-8 overall and have won seven of their last eight games.
Â
vs. Lebanon Valley College Flying Dutchmen – (25-22; 14-25; 25-21; 25-14)
Â
How It Happened: The Chargers would come ready to play today, jumping out to an early 6-1 lead at the start of the first set following kills from
Morgan Fenstermacher,
Riley Dodrer, and
Chloe King. The Dutchmen would battle back, but the Chargers would be in the driver seat the entire first set, keeping a comfortable three to four point lead. Lebanon Valley would make a final effort coming within one point of the Chargers, 23-22, but every time the Dutchmen would get close, the Chargers would make a statement. Chargers won the first set 25-22.
Â
The script would flip in the second set with Lebanon Valley being the ones in control after gaining an early lead. The Chargers would make a four point run to put them within two points including a kill from freshman
Grace Farlow, who would end the match with 10 kills. The Dutchmen would withstand the Charger attack and pull away for the second set, winning 25-14.
Â
The Chargers would prove resilient today and give the crowd the most exciting set of the day in the third. The Dutchmen would start 2-0, but the Chargers, beginning with a
Chloe King kill, one of her ten as well, would help them take a 4-2 advantage. For the next several points each team would make a series of runs, losing and regaining the lead and keeping the crowd on their feet.
Â
It wasn't until the 16
th point that a kill from Dodrer, a huge block from Fenstermacher and
Sheyenne King, a Fenstermacher kill, another block, and several Dutchmen errors would send the place rocking and the Chargers to a 21-17 lead. A huge six point swing for the Chargers proved to be the turn of the game. The Chargers would build on the momentum and not look back rushing to a 25-21 win and 2-1 set advantage.
Â
Despite the best efforts of Lebanon Valley and several impressive plays made, the fourth set would belong to the Chargers from the start. The fourth set would feature the largest lead of the game as the Chargers were firing on all cylinders, jumping to a 10-1 lead. The Chargers would receive help from several players in several different ways including their defensive play led by
Leah Helman who would mark a career-high in digs with 29. The fourth set would end in a convincing 25-14 win and give the Chargers their first win of the day and first win against Lebanon Valley in program history.
Â
By the Numbers:
- Senior Chloe King and freshman Grace Farlow would feature a game high 10 kills for the Chargers… Sophomore Faith Hammond would also add another seven kills.
- Leah Helman would have herself a day with a career-high 29 digs and four total aces.
- The Chargers' frontline of Chloe King, Fenstermacher, and Dodrer would all have three key blocks.
- Faith Helman would dish out a total of 21 assists.
Â
vs. Mount Aloysius College Mounties – (25-14; 25-20; 19-25; 25-12)
Â
How It Happened: Coming off a great win for the program, the Chargers would find themselves in a battle early on, trading points with the Mounties early in the first set. The Chargers though, still carrying the momentum from before, would rally behind two aces from junior
Bethany Pettis and a big block from
Sheyenne King and
Morgan Fenstermacher, putting the Charger lead at 12-7. The Chargers would continue to pour on the pressure offensively behind kills from several different players. The Chargers would control the first set, winning 25-14.
Â
The second set would go back and forth, but the Chargers wouldn't give up the lead. Kills from
Faith Hammond and others would help the Chargers control the lead until the Mounties would make a final comeback to tie it at 20 all. The Chargers wouldn't respond so kindly though, rattling off five points including another block by King and Fenstermacher to add to their block party; a service ace from Pettis, and kills from Farlow and Fenstermacher would end the set 25-20.
Â
The third set would be much like the first game against Lebanon Valley as the Mounties would take the lead early and not give it up. The Chargers would look to mount a series of runs, but fell 25-19. The fourth set was an exact repeat of what happened earlier with the Chargers racing to a 6-0 lead off four straight kills. Several aces, a couple kills, and a series of errors from the Mounties would push the Charger lead to a dominating 14-7 score. The Chargers would end the fourth set and win the match off of six kills from four different players.
Â
By the Numbers:
- Freshman Grace Farlow would have a monster game totaling 13 kills, 4 aces, and 17 digs, eclipsing the 100-kill mark in her first season with the Chargers.Â
- Fenstermacher would continue the block party from earlier with five blocks and add 11 kills of her own.
- Emma Shaeffer would distribute 26 assists for the game.
