(22-25; 25-17; 25-18; 25-23)
The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team returned home after a short road stint and secured a 3-1 win over the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University on Thursday night. The win puts the Chargers' win streak to a total of nine games, the second longest in program history. The Chargers are now 13-8 for the 2022 season with only eight more games to go before postseason play.
How It Happened: The Chargers would win in similar fashion to the past eight wins, this time dropping their first set to the Golden Wolves. It would go back and forth for the majority of the first set with several ties. It wasn't until the 22
nd point that the Golden Wolves took control, finishing the game 25-22.
Despite the slower start for the Chargers, the resilience that has been seen again and again in the team led to the Chargers opening the second set 5-0 on kills from
Morgan Fenstermacher,
Faith Hammond, and
Grace Farlow and a service ace from
Faith Helman. Following the strong start, the Chargers would continue to pour it on offensively, jumping to a 17-8 lead. The Chargers would continue to extend the lead, winning 25-17 in the second set.
Two kills from Farlow and a kill from Fenstermacher would put the Chargers to 5-1 in the beginning of the third set. Hammond, Fenstermacher, and Farlow would all contribute more of their own points giving the Chargers a 10-2 lead. The Charger lead would grow to as much as 11 points and finish the third set 25-18.
The Golden Wolves wouldn't rest though, giving the Chargers problems in the fourth set making them earn the win. The offensive power of the Chargers would prove to be too much for Alvernia, coming from an array of players tonight including Hammond, Fenstermacher, Farlow, and
Chloe King. The Chargers would close out their ninth win in a row with a 25-23 fourth set victory.
By the Numbers:
- Farlow led the way with a game-high 16 kills ... King and Fenstermacher contributed 13 and 11 kills.
- Fenstermacher had a monster five blocks ... Hammond and Farlow had three each.
- Faith Helman dished a season-high 29 assists and Emma Shaeffer had 12.
- Leah Helman finished the game with 24 digs.
Up Next: The Chargers will remain at home for a tri-match this Saturday, October 15
th against United East opponents Gallaudet and SUNY Morrisville beginning at 12 p.m.
