The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team won their eighth non-conference matchup of the 2022 season Tuesday night in a 3-1 win over the Hood College Blazers. The win would top a special night for the Chargers after celebrating seniors
Faith Helman,
Chloe King, and long-time manager Laura Forwood. The Chargers move to 14-10 overall and sit 2-2 in United East play with just five more games to play in the regular season.
How It Happened: The Chargers opened the first set with back-to-back kills from
Morgan Fenstermacher and
Grace Farlow jumping to an early 2-0 lead. Then a few mistakes from the Blazers gave the Chargers a 5-1 lead. This would be the largest lead for the Chargers in set one as the Blazers came storming back, reclaiming the lead at the 10
th point. The two teams would continue to battle out from there with no one taking more than a three-point lead. The Chargers found themselves facing a sizable deficit down 23-20 on the verge of losing the first set. The Chargers would respond with five unanswered points on kills from Farlow,
Faith Hammond, Fenstermacher, a big block from Fenstermacher and Hammond both, and
Chloe King finished the set and comeback with a kill of her own.
The second set would be a repeat of the first set, if not more exciting. With no team taking real control, the score would remain tight with the Blazers finding themselves with a favorable 22-20 lead. Kills from Hammond and
Leah Helman tied things at 22 all, but the Blazers made it 24-22 again. The Chargers would score the next three points before finishing the set on another Hammond kill and block by
Riley Dodrer and
Chloe King.
Just like the first two sets, the third set would go back and forth, but this time the Blazers would come out on top 25-21, narrowly escaping a Charger sweep.
In the fourth set, the Chargers would look to make a statement and put away the game. It would look just like that reaching an 18-9 lead, but the Blazers wouldn't be put to rest storming back to put the game within reach at 22-20. Despite the final charge from the Blazers, the Chargers finished the game 25-20 on mistakes from the Blazers and a
Chloe King kill.
By the Numbers:
Up Next: The Chargers will be on the road Thursday, October 20
th in Langhorne, Pa. to battle against the Highlanders of Cairn University at 7 p.m. in another non-conference matchup.
