The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team took down the Highlanders of Cairn University in straight sets in their final non-conference game of the season on Thursday night. LBC moves to 15-10 overall this season, while Cairn drops to 14-5. The Chargers have just four contests left, all against United East opponents.
Â
After falling behind 4-1 early in the first set, the Chargers (15-10, 2-2 United East) went on a six-point run to take the lead powered by kills from
Grace Farlow and
Morgan Fenstermacher. The two teams proceeded to go back-and-forth for the middle portion of the set, then Farlow landed back-to-back service aces to give LBC a three-point lead.
Riley Dodrer and
Sheyenne King put the finishing touches on set 1 with kills, the score being 25-19.
Â
The second set was a tight battle, with neither team leading by more than three points the whole set. Fenstermacher had several kills throughout the set, with
Faith Hammond and Dodrer also getting involved. The lead swung back and forth at the end of the set until a
Chloe King service ace helped lift the Chargers to a set two win, 25-22.
Â
Cairn grabbed an early lead in the third set, trying to avoid the sweep and going up 10-4. The Chargers had a big response, tying the game at 14 behind kills from several players and a Farlow ace. Dodrer continued to attack from the middle, landing three kills in the set. After a Highlanders timeout, LBC scored three of the final four points to finish out the sweep 25-21 for a 3-0 match victory.
