Women’s Volleyball Splits Southern Maryland Tri-Match

The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball traveled down to southern Maryland to compete in their third United East Conference tri-match again Penn St. Berks and St. Mary's (Md.). The Chargers dropped the first game against Penn St. Berks but bounced back to sweep the Seahawks of St. Mary's (Md.). The Chargers now sit 3-3 in conference play and 16-11 overall sitting at the number four spot with Penn State Harrisburg.

Sets: (17-25; 25-18; 25-20; 25-27; 10-15)
 
The Chargers would bounce back from a first set loss to win back-to-back sets putting them up 2-1 over the Lions. The third set would be capitalized by three consecutive kills from senior Chloe King. Heading into the fourth set the Chargers jumped to a 0-4 lead, but Berks would tie it up on the sixth point. Set number four proceeded to go back and forth until the Lions would tie the score at the 22nd, 24th, and 25th point to only steal the fourth set 27-25. Berks took a demanding 11-4 win before the Chargers made an emergency push to close the gap on kills from Grace Farlow, Morgan Fenstermacher, and a Faith Helman service ace. The offensive attack would fall short, and the Lions would go on to win set five 15-10 and steal the game.
 
By the Numbers:
  • Chloe King filled the stat sheet with a game high 21 kills, 2 aces, 3 blocks, and 16 digs.
  • Leah Helman continued her impressive dig total with 32 digs and added three service aces.
  • Faith Helman dished out 25 assists, Emma Shaeffer added 21 assists and three service aces.

Bouncing back from the tough five-set loss against Penn St. Berks, the Chargers jumped out to an early 6-2 lead on four kills from Chloe King and an ace from Emma Shaeffer. After the strong start from the Chargers, the team would continue the offensive attack and race to a 25-18 win. The second set would feature several strings of attacks for the Chargers from all fronts including blocks, kills, and several service aces. Now rolling with the momentum, the Chargers would take an early 10-3 lead and not look back, winning the third set 25-21 and completing the sweep of the Seahawks.
 
By the Numbers: Information to Know: The Chargers are currently tied at fourth in the United East standings with Penn St. Harrisburg which will be decided next weekend when the two teams square off in Williamsport, Pa. on Saturday, October 29th.
 
Up Next: The Chargers will conclude their 2022 regular season and United East play next Saturday, October 29th in Williamsport, Pa. against Penn College and Penn St. Harrisburg as they look to clinch the final spot in the United East Semifinals.
