Phoenix Soar to Victory Over Chargers in Field Hockey

Wilson 7, Lancaster Bible 0

How it Happened
The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team found themselves on the short end of a 7-0 decision, falling to the Phoenix of Wilson College Thursday afternoon. The Chargers are now 1-2 in conference play and 3-10 overall.

Wilson (7-3, 3-0 CSAC) rang the bell early with a goal 1:04 into the contest.  Under pressure from the Phoenix, the Chargers defense would battle to keep the ball out of the goal until just over a minute to play in the opening stanza, but with quick back to back goals, Wilson would hold a 3-0 advantage heading into the second period.

In the middle quarters, the Chargers would receive stellar play from the defensive back line, bolstered by the effort of Alyssa Hamilton.  But the combination of  struggling to find offensive footing, and the potent attack from the Phoenix, who netted a pair of goals in the second, would take a 5-0 lead into intermission.  They would add two more in the 3rd period as well.

The Phoenix came into the contest boasting three of the top six point producers in the conference, all of whom would find the net in today's matchup.  The Chargers defense was able to hold them scoreless in the final period with the contest ending with a score of 7-0.

By the Numbers
- Freshman keeper Amanda Hoover collected 13 saves on an action packed night in the goal
- Lancaster Bible held Wilson to just 3 shots in the final period
- The Phoenix were able to produce 12 penalty corners
- Amanda Wise recorded a defensive save on the evening

From the Coach
"While this was not our best performance overall, I feel the team did a nice job at times with individual patience defensively.  We have a short turnaround so we will take what we need to from this game, not dwell on it and begin preparation for our matchup on Saturday."  Becky Elliott

Up Next
The field hockey team will finish their season on the road, beginning with a trip to Sweet Briar for a key CSAC matchup on Saturday with a noon start.
