Women’s Soccer Squeaks by Goucher Gophers

Chargers 1, Gophers 0

The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team traveled to Goucher College in Towson, Md. on Tuesday night to compete in their second to last match of the 2022 campaign. The Chargers would play hard, resulting in a 1-0 victory over the Gophers, moving their overall record to 9-7 for the year while Goucher sits at 7-6-3.

How It Happened: The game would begin with the Chargers and Gophers switching fields consistently with several shots being placed on target. Both teams would have several good looks early in the first half but none of them would find the net. It wasn't until the 31st minute when junior Kendal Ream would take the ball up the left side of the box, dodging defenders and placing a hard hit shot on goal. The goalie would be able to make a diving block only for the ball to roll into the feet of senior Megan Rogers running up the right side who would put it in the back of the net. The Rogers goal off a Ream assist would put the Charger lead to 1-0 and be the only score of the game.

Coming out of halftime with a 1-0 Charger lead, both teams would turn up their offensive intensity as Goucher placed a shot and corner kick on goal while senior Bryanna Hoover landed two shots of her own just five minutes into the game. Both teams would make several offensive efforts to break through the defense and find a golden opportunity, but the defenses would remain tough. As time ticked away, the Gophers would make a few last ditch efforts to equalize the game, but the Chargers' defense would withstand all that Goucher sent their way, securing the 1-0 non-conference win.

From the Coach: "Tonight was a tough fight and in the end a gutty win. We continue to defend really well and we're able to capitalize on one that sealed the game"Head Coach Jake Warren

By the Numbers: The Gophers edged out the Chargers in shots 16-11 with 6 of their shots being on target… Erin Mikula registered six saves for the Chargers… Goucher beat out LBC in corner kicks 7-4.

Information to Know: The Chargers are on a four-game win streak against the Goucher Gophers pushing the matchup record to 6-4. The last loss for the Chargers against the Gophers came all the way back in 2012.

Up Next: The Chargers will finish their 2022 season right at home on the Donald H. Funk Field on Saturday, October 29th at 1 p.m. versus Eastern University.
