The Lancaster Bible field hockey team took to the road again after a long stint at the Donald H. Funk Field, this time heading to St. Davids, Pa to compete against the Eastern University Eagles. Coming off an exciting three game win streak, the Eagles would get the best of the Chargers Wednesday night, winning 7-1. The non-conference moves the overall record for the Chargers to 3-7 and still 1-0 in CSAC play.
Â
How It Happened: The Chargers would battle strong for the first ten or so minutes of the first period, withstanding any direct offensive attacks from the Eagles. It wouldn't be until the end of the first period that the Eagles would break the plane of the goal, scoring back-to-back in the 12
th minute and 13
th minute. The first period would end with an Eagles lead of 2-0.
Â
Just a minute into the second period, sophomore
Hannah Hoffman, who found the net four times last week, would continue her streak with another goal taking the ball from midfield down the center and into the back of the goal. The Hoffman goal would cut the Lancaster Bible deficit to one goal. The Eagles would respond with a plethora of shots on goal, but CSAC Defensive Player of the Week and freshman goalkeeper,
Amanda Hoover, would illustrate just why she won the award blocking everything she could and ending the game with a fantastic 15 saves. Just before the half, Eastern would sneak in a goal to make it 3-1 at halftime.
Â
The Charger defense would come up big in the third period, holding the Eagles scoreless thanks to the likes of Hoover and junior defender
Alyssa Hamilton. Running out of steam as the Eagles remained relentless on the attack, the fourth period would feature four Eastern goals leading to a final score of 7-1.
From the Coach: "We knew this would be a defensive battle. Our defense did a great job of sustaining as long as they could. We just ran out of gas. Our goal was a great example of full-team effort as it started with a pass from out backfield." -
Head Coach Becky Elliott

By the Numbers: The Chargers were outgunned tonight by a total of 35-4 shots… the Chargers defense tallied 18 saves… the Eagles tallied 23 penalty corners while the Chargers managed two… Hoffman scored the lone goal for the Chargers, her sixth of the season.
