Houghton 7, Lancaster Bible 1
The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team fell behind early Saturday afternoon, falling in non-conference play to the Highlanders of Houghton College by a score of 7-1. The Chargers drop to 3-8 overall (1-0 in CSAC play) and Houghton improves to 9-3.
How it Happened:
Lancaster Bible gave up an early goal less than 90 seconds into the contest, putting the Highlanders up 1-0. Houghton dominated the possession in the first quarter, not allowing the Chargers to get a shot off. In the last five minutes, the Highlanders would find the back of the goal twice more, with the Chargers entering the first break with a 3-0 deficit. The second quarter began with a penalty corner for the Chargers, with
Haley Stahl firing a shot that was blocked by the Highlanders' keeper. The teams went back and forth for the remainder of the period, with the Chargers' defense holding off five shots from Houghton to leave the score 3-0 at halftime.
Houghton got off to a hot start coming out of the half, scoring twice in the first three minutes to take a commanding 5-goal lead. LBC was once again stifled on the offensive end, unable to find the back of the goal as Houghton scored again to take a 6-0 lead into the final period. After scoring again to extend the lead to seven, the Chargers worked the ball up the field trying to make a push.
Haley Stahl was able to connect on a pass to sophomore
Sarah Dukeman, who got the ball past the goalie for LBC's first score of the game. The Chargers played out the last three minutes, dropping the contest 7-1.
