Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Hunter Gerber

Women's Soccer Can't Overcome Lions

Continuing United East Conference play, the Lancaster Bible women's soccer team traveled to Harrisburg, Pa on Wednesday evening to face-off against Penn St.-Harrisburg in an important contest. Despite the tough defensive display, the Chargers would end up falling 2-0 and moving to 4-6 overall, 1-4 in conference.

How It Happened: Defense would be the name of the game for tonight's contest, unfortunately for the Chargers an early goal by the Lions would put them in a hole early. Almost two minutes into the game the Lions would find the net, and the Chargers would have to respond. The response was the tightening of the defense which would hold the Lions scoreless for the next 82 minutes of the game.

Despite the defense withstanding several key Lion attacks, nothing would seem to get going offensively for the Chargers as much of the focus was on stopping the attack. It would seem as though the Chargers might catch a break later in the second half and possibly tie the game, but a slip-up late in the second half would end any potential. Although the loss isn't exactly what the Chargers wanted tonight, there was lifted spirits as the defense stepped up and played strong for the majority of the game. An improvement that can only be built on as the Chargers get to crunch time in the United East standings.

From the Coach: "We knew this game would be a tough one. But the girls gave everything and defended well the entire night. And overall we were pleased with the improvements from recent weeks" – Head Coach Jake Warren

By the Numbers: The Lions outshot the Chargers 8-2… Erin Mikula ended the game with four saves… the Lions had the only corners for the game ending with four.

Up Next: The Chargers will look to bounce back in a United East home contest with the Wells Express this Saturday, October 8th at 1 p.m.
