The Lancaster Bible College baseball program has announced its 2023 season following a hopeful 2022 campaign where the Chargers went 18-21 and earned a bid to the United East Conference Semifinals before falling to Penn St. Abington and Penn College.
Â
The 2023 season will feature 11 non-conference contests, seven United East Conference double-headers, and one trip down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for four days worth of competition. The first pitch for the Chargers will be thrown on Friday, March 3Â right on the Lancaster Bible College campus as they battle against non-conference foe Lesley University in a two-day series.
Â
The Chargers will have a quick turnaround following the series with Lesley as they travel down to Myrtle Beach, S.C. on March 5Â for their annual spring break road trip featuring several games over the course of the week. Upon return, the Chargers will battle against non-conference Neumann University on March 15Â in only their second matchup with the school before beginning United East Conference play against a tough opponent in Penn St. Harrisburg. The two-day series with Harrisburg will be played over the weekend of March 17Â and be a great preview to what the Chargers can do in conference this coming year.
Â
The Chargers will then have an eight-game home stand, squaring off against a mixture of conference and non-conference opponents including Gettysburg, St. Mary's (Md.), Elizabethtown, and Penn St. Abington. After their bout with Abington, the Chargers will travel to Cairn for a double-header, then return home for a home game against Juniata College on April 6.
Â
The Chargers will finish out the season with double-headers against Gallaudet, Penn St. Berks, an important contest against Penn College who knocked them out of the United East Championship last year, and ending the regular season against Wells College at home on April 28Â and 29. In between those conference doubleheaders, the Chargers will face off with Penn St. Altoona, Stevenson University, Rosemont, and Cairn one final time.
Â
Head Coach Caleb Abney had this to say about the season ahead…
"We are excited to get a play more games in our ballpark this year and we are looking forward to the opportunity to test ourselves against some real good baseball programs. We have had a fantastic offseason of hard work from this tough group of men, and we can't wait to get out on the baseball field and to see how much that hard work will pay off for us."
