How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College baseball team powered past St. Mary's College of Maryland in game one of their three-game series, picking up a 19-8 victory on Friday, April 15.
The Chargers (14-15 Overall, 9-4 United East) got off to a fast start, taking the lead in the top of the first inning.
Blake Greenly led off the game, reaching on an error.
Jaden Pinkney hammered a single into center field, putting runners on first and second.
Brian Coburn smashed a single into left field, scoring Greenly to give LBC a 1-0 lead.
Tyler Cunningham loaded the bases with a single to short stop.
Ethan Varricchione hit a hard ground ball to second base, allowing Pinkney to score. Later in the inning,
Harrison Hobdy hit a single through the left side, making the score 3-0.
St. Mary's (Md.) (10-9 Overall 6-6 United East) fought back, scoring three runs in second to tie the game at three. LBC answered back in the top of the third inning. Coburn led off the inning with single and then stole second and advanced to third on an error. Coburn eventually scored on a wild pitch. LBC kept the rally going when Varricchione and Cunningham reached base and moved themselves in scoring position.
Josh Noll roped a single into left center, allowing both runners to score and giving LBC a 6-3 advantage.
The Chargers kept rolling in the fourth inning. Greenly led off the inning, smacking a double into right center. Coburn then singled to center field, allowing Greenly to score. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Coburn scored on a wild pitch to put LBC ahead 8-3.
Adam Naylor kept the rally going hitting a hard ground ball that allowed Varricchione to score. After Hobdy scored on a pass ball, Noll singled up the middle, driving in a run to give the Chargers an 11-3 lead.
The Chargers kept the offense rolling, scoring two runs in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh inning to stretch the lead to 16. The Chargers kept the offense rolling, powering to a 19-8Â victory.
