How it Happened
The Lancaster Bible College baseball team got up early on Wells College to take a dominant 14-4 win in game one of their three-game series on Saturday, April 30.
The Chargers (16-19 Overall, 11-8 United East) struck first in the opening frame. After
Blake Greenly hit a lead-off double,
Brian Coburn sent him home with a double of his own, driving in the first run of the game.
Jaden Pinkney singled to put runners on the corners, then an error allowed Coburn to score. In the next at-bat,
Ethan Varricchione hit LBC's third double of the inning, scoring Pinkney.
Harrison Hobdy launched his first career triple, extending the Charger lead to four.
Josh Noll knocked a single into center field, scoring Hobdy to give LBC a 5-0 advantage.
LBC had another huge run in the top of the fourth inning. Greenly and Coburn got on base and pulled a double steal to get into scoring position. Pinkney lifted a double to right field, driving in both runners to make the score 7-0. Pinkney then scored on a single from Varricchione, the eighth run of the game.
Adam Naylor kept the scoring going, smashing an RBI double to extend the LBC lead to nine runs. Noll immediately followed, putting a base hit through the middle that drove in two runs. Later in the inning, Coburn got his second hit of the inning, driving a two-run single through the infield to put the Chargers up 13-0.
The Express (8-26 Overall, 3-15 United East) ended the shutout, putting up two runs in the seventh inning. LBC tacked on another run in the ninth inning. Greenly singled to left field and Pinkney was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. Hobdy then reached on an error that allowed Greenly to score, putting LBC up 14-2.
