Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Hunter Gerber

Field Hockey Drops Home Opener

After a long road-trip featuring four games in three states, the Lancaster Bible College field hockey team opened at home under the lights of Donald H. Funk Field against the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University. Unfortunately, the Mighty Macs proved to be too much leading to a 5-1 loss for the Chargers. Following the loss, the Chargers move to 0-5 and the Mighty Macs move to an even 3-3 overall record.

How It Happened: The energy was flowing for the Chargers as the lights brightened and the temperature cooled. For much of the first quarter, the Chargers and Mighty Macs would exchange sides with no one able to get a clear shot on goal. It was the Mighty Macs that were able to find the net first 18:29 into the game.

The Chargers would continue to fight as the Mighty Macs made run after run, putting together a few attacks of their own off some impressive passing. Despite the Chargers' efforts, Immaculata would be the only one to find the scoreboard, running to a 5-0 lead. That was until sophomore Haley Stahl fired a shot on goal, leading to a ricochet which sophomore Hannah Hoffman would collect and tap to fellow sophomore Molly Gray who would send it to the back of the goal. This would send the deficit to 5-1 just before the end of the third period.

The goal from Gray would be the last goal for the night as both teams worked up and down looking to break the plane. After a tough sixty minutes of play, the Chargers would fall 5-1 in their home debut of the 2022 season.

From the Coach: "The score was not a reflection of our effort tonight. We came out strong in the first quarter, surprised them and never gave up, which was evident with getting two corners at the end of the game. It was a great corner execution to score the goal. Shout out to the crowd for bringing the energy!" – Head Coach Becky Elliott

By the Numbers: The Mighty Macs would fire 17 shots towards the goal with nine being on the mark compared to the Chargers three shots with two being shots on goal… LBC would have four saves on the night and the Mighty Macs one… the Macs would hold the advantage in penalty corners 8-1.

Information to Know: The Home Stand – the Chargers have returned home and will stay at home for some time with four more home games spanning over two weeks featuring opponents Lycoming, Southern Virginia, Bryn Athyn, and Wells.

Up Next: Next week the Chargers will matchup against two worthy opponents, Lycoming College on Wednesday, September 21st at 6 p.m. and Southern Virginia on Homecoming next Saturday, September 24th at 6 p.m.
