How it Happened:Â The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team began their weekend road trip in Winchester, Va. with a visit to Shenandoah University, losing in straight sets.
Â
The first set began with a string of errors from both sides, with the Hornets (2-4, 0-0 ODAC) leading early.
Emma Shaeffer landed a service ace to bring the Chargers (1-6, 0-0 United East) within two points.
Faith Hammond had the first kill of the night for the Chargers in an attempt to keep the score close, then the score went back and forth for several volleys. Senior
Chloe King smashed a kill that launched a five-point run for the Chargers, capped off by a service ace by King. LBC stayed within three points for the remainder of the set, but the Hornets took the set 25-22.
Â
Morgan Fenstermacher got LBC on the board first in the second set with loud kill off the reception, then
Leah Helman found the ground for an ace to put her team up 3-2. After Shenandoah grabbed the lead,
Chloe King added two more kills to keep the Chargers within striking distance. The Hornets were able to create some more separation before taking set two by a score of 25-20.
Â
Early in the third set, freshman
Grace Farlow struck back-to-back kills to tie the game at three. Shenandoah went on a six-point run, but the Chargers responded by winning six of the next eight points to keep it close. Later in the set,
Chloe King continued to lead the offensive attack, sparking a seven-point run to bring LBC within one point. That final run could not put the Chargers over the top, dropping the third set 25-20 and completing the 3-set sweep.
