Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Hunter Gerber

Women's Volleyball Splits Virginia Tri-Match

The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team would split the tri-match located at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Va this Saturday as they wrapped up their extensive road tip featuring a total of nine away contests. The Chargers would fall in their first contest against host school Eastern Mennonite 3-0, and then bounced back sweeping Mary Baldwin 3-0. This moves the Chargers' overall record to 2-7 for the start of the 2022 season.  
 
at Eastern Mennonite University Royals – The Chargers would open the match jumping to a two-point lead following an ace from Grace Farlow and kill from Morgan Fenstermacher. The Royals and Chargers would proceed to exchange points resulting in a total of four lead changes in just the first 16 points of the game. The Royals would open the lead and maintain control rattling off five unanswered points. The first set would finish 25-13, Royals.
 
The Royals would start the second set with a 7-3 lead before a rally from the Chargers behind an ace from Chloe King and kill by Faith Hammond would tie the game at 8-8 all. The Chargers would continue to push but EMU would finish the second set with a 25-16 win.
 
The Chargers and Royals would begin the first set trading point after point, the lead would change a total of four times including the game being tied at 15-15. Despite the efforts from the Chargers, the Royals would escape with the lead the third set 25-18 and sweeping the match 3-0.
 
By the Numbers: Senior Chloe King would lead the Chargers in kills with six… freshman Riley Dodrer would add two blocks… senior Faith Helman would finish with 11 assists… and sophomore Leah Helman would have 10 digs for the match.
 
versus Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels – After a hard-fought battle against the Royals of Eastern Mennonite, the Chargers would turn around for another challenge against the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels. Only this time it would be the Chargers coming away with the sweep, winning 3-0.
 
The Chargers would battle back and forth with the Fighting Squirrels to begin the first set until reaching a comfortable 17-11 lead. That was until Mary Baldwin would rally down five to tie the game at 21-21 all. After the 21st points for both teams the score would then be tied four more times before an ace from Chloe King would win the set by a score of 30-28.
 
In the second set, the Chargers would race to a 11-2 lead as Chloe King and Riley Dodrer had a big block followed by a service ace from Emma Shaeffer and kills from Chloe King and Faith Hammond. The Chargers would race to a 25-14 win behind Emma Shaeffer's impressive three service aces. The third set wouldn't be as easy as the second set for the Chargers, beginning down 5-2. The Chargers would rally on two service aces from junior Bethany Pettis and two kills from Grace Farlow. Mary Baldwin wouldn't back down though. The Fighting Squirrels would manage to take the lead once again this time 17-11. The Chargers though, showing a great deal of resiliency as they compete in their eighth road game this season, would battle tooth and nail to escape with a 31-29 victory and completing the sweep of Mary Baldwin.

By the Numbers - Chloe King would lead with eight kills followed by Hammond's seven kills... Emma Shaeffer would add four service aces and Pettis would finish with three aces... Faith Helman would have 14 assists and sister Leah Helman would have 16 digs.

Up Next: The Chargers will complete the road stretch in Bethlehem, Pa. against Moravian University on Monday, September 19th before returning to the Horst Athletic Center to take on Valley Forge University in their Homecoming match on Friday, September 23rd at 7 p.m.
