Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Hunter Gerber

Women's Volleyball Wins Five Set Thriller

The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team would finish their final road contest of their extensive road-trip on Monday night in Bethlehem, Pa against the Greyhounds of Moravian University. The Chargers would go on to complete a 3-2 win as they competed in their ninth road match of the 2022 season. The win Monday night would not only propel the Chargers to a two-game win streak and 3-7 overall record, but also build momentum as they head into their homecoming game against University of Valley Forge at the Horst Athletic Center on Friday night. The Greyhounds move to 5-6 overall for the year.

How It Happened: The second set would open neck and neck as the Chargers and Greyhounds would exchange points. That was until three consecutive plays from sophomore Leah Helman including a service ace along with back-to-back kills from Chloe and Sheyenne King would allow the Chargers to race to a 16-10 lead. After the big offensive push, the Chargers would keep the Greyhounds at a distance with the help of junior Morgan Fenstermacher, putting down two kills and freshman Grace Farlow adding a service ace. The Chargers would win the first set 25-19.

The Chargers would rattle off seven unanswered points to begin the second set on kills from Fenstermacher, Dodrer, and Chloe King as well as an ace from Farlow. They would lead by as much as 10 points behind help from Farlow and Faith Hammond, but the Greyhounds simply wouldn't back down. The rally from Moravian would tie the game at the 21st point and would go back and forth until the Greyhounds would steal set two, 30-28.

The Chargers would regather and take set three 25-20 as they shared the wealth with kills from Hammond, Farlow, King, and Fenstermacher. Faith Hammond would have two critical service aces at the end of the set. Just like before, the Greyhounds would start set four in survival mode giving the Chargers a sizable deficit early. The Chargers would battle back from down 17-9 to 19-16 but would fall short as Moravian wins set four with a score of 25-19.

The final set would go just as you imagine it would, a battle at the net. Moravian would take a quick 6-2 lead, but the Chargers would storm back on a kill from Hammond, two kills from Farlow, and an ace from Chloe King. The offensive fury would give the Chargers an 8-6 lead and they wouldn't give it back. Another two kills from Farlow and an additional ace from Hammond would result in a 12-8 lead. Then Sheyenne King would place the final kill of the night leading to a 15-12 victory and the completion of a five-set win for the Chargers.
