Women's Volleyball Extends Winning Streak, Races Past Patriots

 
The women's volleyball team would open Homecoming weekend with a dominant win over the University of Valley Forge Friday night, sweeping the Patriots 25-5, 25-10, and 25-8. The win against the Patriots extends the Charger winning streak to three with an overall record of 4-7. Valley Forge moves to an overall record of 2-5.
 
How It Happened: The Chargers would start the game hot following four service aces from Leah Helman and a kill from Morgan Fenstermacher and Sheyenne King each. The lead would jump to 7-1. Sophomore Emma Shaeffer would then serve a total of thirteen times in a row as the Chargers would turn up the offensive attack and extend the lead further, 17-3. The first set would finish 25-5.
 
The second set would look much of the same with Sheyenne King, Faith Hammond, Brittany Martin, and Fenstermacher all placing the ball down on the other side of the net. The second set would finish 25-10. Festermacher would open the third set with a kill, then King, Martin, and Riley Dodrer would all add to the lead. Faith Helman would almost reach sister Leah Helman with the most serves in a row at nine in the third set. The final kill from Brittany Martin would end the set and the match, 25-8, completing the sweep and the fourth win of the season for the Chargers.

By the Numbers: Sheyenne King would lead the game in kills with six; Martin and Fenstermacher would both have five… Leah Helman would have four service aces, Faith Helman and Emma Shaeffer would add two each… Faith Helman would finish with 11 assists and freshman Madison Timberlake would end with nine digs.
 
Up Next: The Chargers will look to add to their winning streak Tuesday, September 27th at 7 p.m. here at the Horst Athletic Center as they take on Elizabethtown College.
