Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Hunter Gerber

Chargers Come Up Short in Conference Opener

The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team would open United East Conference play at home against the Penn College Wildcats this afternoon. A game which saw all three goals scored in a matter of the first ten minutes of the match, the Wildcats would go on to finish with a 2-1 victory over the Chargers. Lancaster Bible moves to 3-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference while Penn College earns their first victory moving to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in conference.

How It Happened: It wouldn't take long for the Chargers to find the scoreboard, in fact only 42 seconds to be exact. On a pass ahead from senior Megan Rogers, junior Rachel Dickinson would collect the ball on the left side of the box to only juke a defender and place a shot into the left side of the net, giving the Chargers a 1-0 lead in the game before the first minute.

Penn College wouldn't take long to respond though, and they would do it twice. The Wildcats would have their first goal just before the eighth minute and then tap in another at the 9:44 mark giving the Wildcats the edge with a score of 2-1.

The rest of the game would be a defensive battle. The Wildcats and Chargers would continue to trade sides of the field looking for a breakthrough, but after just four shots each in the second half the score would finish 2-1 in favor of the Wildcats.

From the Coach: "Tough one to let slip away today. We just couldn't find any answers and got outplayed in key areas. The road gets more difficult this coming week, so we need to bounce back" – Head Coach Jake Warren

By the Numbers: Rachel Dickinson would score her first goal of the season… the Wildcats would have the advantage in shots with an 11-6 total… Lancaster Bible would feature six saves for the day… Penn College would also hold the advantage in corner kicks 8-2.

Information to Know: The matchup record between the Wildcats and Chargers moves to an even 3-3-2 following today's loss.

Up Next: The Chargers will continue United East play with two matches next week. They will travel to Reading, Pa. to battle against Penn St. Berks on Wednesday, September 21st at 5 p.m. and then make a home stand on Homecoming next Saturday, September 24th at 12 p.m. against St. Mary's College of Maryland.
