The Lancaster Bible College field hockey team shut out the Lions of Bryn Athyn College 5-0 on Wednesday night in their first Colonial States Athletic Conference competition of 2022. The win pushes the Chargers to 2-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play while beginning a two-game win streak. The Lions move to 0-6 overall, and 0-1 in conference play.
Â
How It Happened: The Chargers and Lions would step up in the first period as both teams would make offensive pushes deep into each other's territory, with both teams putting up strong defensive fights. Freshman goalkeeper
Amanda Hoover would finish the first period with a key save against a strong penalty corner attempt from the Lions.
The second period would be where the action was. The Chargers' scoring would be produced first by
Hannah Hoffman who would score her second goal of the season and first goal of the game just before the 18-minute mark. Following in her footsteps would be teammate
Molly Gray who would score just two minutes later, placing the Charger lead to 2-0. Hoffman would again add another score that would mark her second of the game and third of the season; the Chargers would head to half with a 3-0 lead against the Lions.
The third period would not be quite as entertaining as the second period, in fact it would be a defensive battle between both teams. The Chargers and Lions would exchange offensive pushes but neither defensive squad would allow a breakdown.
Coming into the fourth period, the Chargers offense would pick back up again with another
Molly Gray score that would push the Chargers' lead to 4-0 and be her second goal of the game as well. The final score of the game would come off a penalty shot in the 55
th minute when captain
Alyssa Hamilton would take advantage of a penalty shot and place it in the back of the goal. The game would wrap up with Chargers winning 5-0 and marking the second shutout of the season for the Chargers.
From the Coach: "Tonight was a good night to work on some things that we don't get to work on at practice because of being a small squad. We had several good transfers and passing combinations that lead to scoring opportunities. Excited to get that first conference win." -
Head Coach Becky Elliott
