Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Hunter Gerber

Lancaster Bible Drops Road Opener, 0-1

The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team traveled to Elmira, New York to square off against the Elmira College Soaring Eagles for the first time in program history. The Chargers would drop their first road contest, 0-1, moving both programs to a 1-1 record.

How It Happened: The Chargers would come out strong with a balanced attack on both sides of the ball, firing off eight shots including two that just barely hit the crossbar. The offensive barrage would continue to keep the crowd and the Soaring Eagles defense on their toes. The Chargers defense led by the likings of junior Elaina Dinse, freshman Janae Bergey, freshman Kayleigh Rhine, and goalkeepers Erin Mikula and Marcy Foltz would hold Elmira to only four first half shots and a total of nine shots for the game. Despite the steady effort from the defense, the Soaring Eagles would find a pass slip through the right side with a Soaring Eagles player there to put it in the back of the net with 19:19 remaining in the first half. The first half would conclude 1-0 Elmira.

Entering the second half, the offensive attack for the Chargers would not let up firing off shot after shot with no luck finding the net. The Chargers had several great opportunities today from various through-balls and crosses, but just couldn't capitalize. A showing the Chargers should not hang their head from, they will look to carry the momentum on both sides of the ball into next week.

From the Coach: "I feel like we deserved more from today. We created plenty of chances, just couldn't put on away. Overall, we fought really hard, and I can't say enough about the resilience to push to the end." – Head Coach Jake Warren

By the Numbers: The Chargers would hold the advantage offensively winning the shot battle, 23-9, and the corner kicks, 7-4… 10 of the 23 shots by the Chargers would be on target including two off the crossbar… the Soaring Eagles led with 10 saves, but the Chargers would finish with an impressive eight saves on nine shots.

Information to Know: Last year for the 2021 campaign, the Chargers would begin 1-1 in their first two games and would go on to rattle off three consecutive wins.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible will return to action under the lights of Donald H. Funk Field on Wednesday, Sept. 7th against rival Bible college Cairn University at 7 p.m.
