Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Hunter Gerber

Chargers Run to Impressive 2-0 Victory

Under the lights here at Donald H. Funk Field, the Chargers would meet a familiar foe in the Highlanders of Cairn University on Wednesday night. A rivalry which would date back to 2002, the Chargers would run to a convincing 2-0 victory in what would be a dominant performance from the Lancaster Bible women's soccer team.

How It Happened: Returning from a tough 1-0 loss to Elmira on the road Saturday, the Chargers would look for a bounce back and they would do just that and more. The moment the game started, the Chargers would go on attack and remain on attack until the 90th minute, not letting the Highlanders get into any rhythm. In the first five minutes of the game, the Chargers would send two quick shots right at the goalie, setting the tone for the rest of the game. It wouldn't be much longer until senior forward Kara Huber would send a rocket into the right side of the net from a beautiful assist by fellow attack Kendal Ream. This would put the Chargers on the scoreboard just 10 minutes into the game.

It wasn't but just a little over 13 minutes later that senior Megan Rogers would take a through ball up the right side from freshman Kayleigh Rhine and place it perfectly in the far-left corner of the net, sending the score to 2-0. The Chargers would continue to keep the Highlanders on their toes as they continued to send shot after shot, controlling the majority of the possession for the remainder of the game. The offensive attack wasn't the only edge either; the Chargers defense would only end up allowing a total of one shot for the game.

A performance that would leave the coaches and crowd impressed; the Chargers will look to build off this momentum as they have one more non-conference match before conference play begins.

From the Coach: "The girls had a great performance tonight. We created great attacking opportunities and executed our defensive press really well. It's exciting to see our group coming together early in the season." – Head Coach Jake Warren

By the Numbers: The Chargers would end the game with a dominant 18-1 shot total… hold an edge in corner kicks 3-1… while Cairn's goalkeeper, Isabelle Lazor, would have a solid night herself finishing with 10 saves.

Information to Know: The matchup between Cairn University and Lancaster Bible is one for the ages and little did anyone know the win for the Chargers tonight would push the matchup record to 11-10 wins over the Highlanders. And the Chargers have had their rally cap on for some time now as the program has achieved a 10-1 record in the last 11 matchups.

Up Next: The Chargers will hit the road again and arrive at Gwynedd Valley, Pa. to battle against the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins on Tuesday, September 13th at 7 p.m.
