Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Hunter Gerber

Chargers Cannot Overcome the Blazers

Continuing their tough road stretch, the Lancaster Bible field hockey team would travel to Frederick, Md. to matchup against the Blazers of Hood College. Looking for their first win, the Chargers would give up a single goal late in the first quarter and not be able to overcome the deficit, leading to a 1-0 loss.

How It Happened: The advantage would lie with the Hood Blazers from the jump as they sent a total of 10 shots towards the goal in the first quarter alone. Despite the best efforts of freshman goalkeeper Amanda Hoover, a single shot would roll to the back of the cage a little over the 12-minute mark and would be the only score of the game.

The Blazers would not let the Chargers defense take a rest either, sending an additional 25 shots over the remaining three quarters of play. The Chargers defense would not let another one past them for the remainder of the game and would even send two shots of their own in the fourth quarter.

Despite the loss, freshman goalkeeper Amanda Hoover would tally an impressive 19 saves. A career high for Hoover as she's just beginning.

From the Coach: "Tonight was another hard fought battle, where we saw improvement on our passing and communication. The fact that our fourth quarter was once again our strongest quarter is a testament to our team's grit, and our solid defense." - Head Coach Becky Elliott

By the Numbers: Hood would lead in both shots 35-2 and penalty corners 12-2… while Chargers held the advantage in saves 19-1.

Information to Know: The Chargers defense has experienced great improvement under Coach Elliot's leadership, allowing a total of 6 goals over the past three games compared to 14 goals at the start of the 2021 season.

Up Next: The Chargers will continue their extensive road-trip for one last game against Goucher College on Tuesday, Sept. 13th at 7 p.m. and return to Donald H Funk Field for their home debut against Immaculata University on Friday, Sept. 16th at 7 p.m.
