Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Hunter Gerber

Field Hockey Beats Roberts Wesleyan on the Road

The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team traveled north to upstate New York for a weekend of games, including NCAA Division II opponent Roberts Wesleyan, who the Chargers beat 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers improve to 3-8 overall while the Redhawks drop to 1-9 on the year.

How It Happened: Both teams ended the first period scoreless despite the Chargers sending five of their 22 total shots towards the goal. The Chargers stayed relentless on the offensive attack, scoring early into the second period. Junior Alexis Gilbert got her third goal of the season just 2:20 into the period, giving the Chargers their first lead of the game.

The Chargers continued to dominate offensively but couldn't find the net again, sending both teams to halftime with a 1-0 Chargers lead. Opening the second half, both teams traded penalty corners and shots, only for the Chargers to tally their second goal of the game just under three minutes left in the third period as junior Molly Gray got an assist from freshman Riley Danko. This was Gray's fourth of the season and Danko's first career assist.

The action slowed down in the fourth period as both teams battled fatigue, but the Chargers managed to put one more on the board to make it a 3-0 win as Gray scored her second goal of the game on an assist from freshman Mira Rineer with just five minutes left in the game. This was Rineer's first collegiate assist as well.

By the Numbers: The Chargers outshot the Redhawks 22-2… the Redhawks had 10 saves… the Chargers had six penalty corners to the Redhawks' three… Gray had two goals and Gilbert had one… Danko and Rineer each tallied an assist.

Information to Know: This was the first competition in program history between the two teams… in all three Charger wins this season they have scored three goals… Gray leads the team with five goals and one assist.

Up Next: The Chargers turn around and visit Wells tomorrow on Sunday, October 8 at 1:00 p.m.
