The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team suffered a 73-45 road defeat against non-conference opponent Misericordia. The Chargers' record drops to 1-7 on the year, and they sit at 0-2 in the United East. The Cougars move up to a 5-3 record so far this season.
How It Happened: Misericordia came out to a hot start scoring seven straight, but Lancaster Bible quickly answered with eight consecutive points, with four from
Rachel Nolt. After the Cougars took another swift lead, the duo of
Shelby Gard and
Alaysha Iwais showed off their chemistry, assisting on back-to-back buckets to each other and slimming the deficit. After entering the second quarter down 21-15, the Chargers scored four in just half a minute to open the period. However, the Cougars responded by outscoring Lancaster Bible 12-2 in the next five minutes. Nolt continued to put up points for the Chargers, getting six in the second quarter, but the team still went into halftime down 41-28.
Looking to make a comeback, Iwais drilled a three on the Chargers' second possession of the half. Unfortunately, Misericordia followed with a 16-2 run, but Lancaster Bible ended the third quarter with four unanswered points thanks to a
Shelby Gard three to end the period. In the fourth quarter,
Natalie Wenger scored four points early, and the team did a good job limiting the Cougars to seven team points in the first five minutes of the period. The team added to their total with a handful of free throws, but at the end of the final buzzer, the Cougars remained victorious over the Chargers 73-45.
