Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Hunter Gerber

Men’s Tennis Wraps Up Spring Break

The Lancaster Bible College men's tennis squad finished out their spring break trip in Hilton Head, S.C. splitting their last two matches. On Wednesday, the Chargers lost in an 0-8 decision to Catholic but bounced back on Thursday against Johnson & Wales with a decisive 7-2 victory. The Chargers now sit at 6-1 overall for the year.

Catholic, 0-8 Loss

The Chargers battled tough against Catholic, but were overpowered, being swept in both the singles and doubles matches. Senior Devon Clemmer lost the first contest in a close one, 6-7, but dropped the second set 2-6. Senior AJ Kwiatkowski also lost his first set in a close 6-7 duel and dropped the second set 3-6. Caleb Cavaiani gave a valiant effort, losing 4-6 in the first set but dropping the second set 1-6. On the doubles side, the combo of Andrew Moore and Kwiatkowski made things interesting, losing the first set 7-8 and the second set 3-7.

Johnson & Wales, 7-2 Win

After a tough duel with Catholic the day before, the Chargers returned the favor against the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales, winning 7-2. Clemmer got the squad off to a hot start, beating their #1, Millwood, in a tightly contested three sets. Micah Weaver dropped his match, but teammates Josh Jarvis, Malachi Bomgardner, Kwiatkowski, and Cavaiani picked up their teammates with wins of their own. Leading 5-1 after singles, the Chargers dropped their first doubles, but responded by winning their last two with the partners of Weaver & Kwiatkowski and Cavaiani & Bomgardner.

Up Next: The Chargers return back to the cold of Eastern Pa. to take on York (Pa.) on Thursday, March 16th at the Hempfield Rec Center. The match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
