Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Hunter Gerber

Chargers Sweep Patriots, Win Second Conference Game

The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team traveled down to Phoenixville, Pa. to take on the Patriots of Valley Forge, beating them in three straight sets. The Chargers improve to 12-8 overall and 2-0 in the CSAC while the Patriots drop to 5-8 overall and 0-3 in CSAC play.

How It Happened: The Chargers got hot out of the gate, jumping to a 9-4 lead behind kills from Elijah Herb, Hunter Davis, and Dawson Forney. The Patriots got within two points before the Chargers went on a massive 16-7 run, ending the first set on a Davis ace.

The Chargers scored the first three points in the second set, but the Patriots didn't back down, matching each point the Chargers scored. Keeping the game within two to three points, the Patriots looked to hang around, trying to find a breakthrough. The Patriots tied the game 15-15 before the Chargers strung five unanswered points together and eventually won the second set 25-21.

In the third set a Herb kill got things started followed by back-to-back huge blocks from Davis and Herb, and two more kills from Herb and Davis made it 5-1 purely off the offensive attack of the seniors. Again the Patriots looked for every opportunity for a breakthrough, but couldn't find the answer for the Charger attack as they concluded the third and final set of the night 25-18.

By the Numbers: The Chargers edged out the Patriots in kills 36-15 and aces 7-2… the Chargers tallied five blocks and 22 digs… and dished 31 assists for the night… Herb had a game high 12 kills and four blocks… Davis filled the stat sheet with seven kills, three aces, and four blocks… Forney had six kills and one ace… Christian Herr had 31 assists… Shertzer had nine digs.

Information to Know: This is the first time the Chargers have squared off with the Patriots... Herb's 261 kills this season are currently the 8th-most in a single season in program history.

Up Next: The Chargers stay local, traveling to Elizabethtown on Saturday, March 18 to face off with the Blue Jays and Arcadia in a tri-match at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.
