The Lancaster Bible College baseball team got a home win in their first game of 2023 on Friday afternoon, taking down the Links of Lesley University 13-11. The game was called after six innings because of weather. The Chargers are now 1-0 overall while the Links fall to 0-1.
How it Happened:Â The scoring began right away in the first inning when sophomore
Harrison Hobdy launched the Chargers' first home run of the season for a three-run shot to center field, putting LBC up 3-0. In the second inning, freshman
Dylan Witkowski notched his first career RBI on a sacrifice fly, then
Brian Coburn knocked a two-run home run past the fence to give the Chargers a six-run advantage. Junior
Andrew Workman was dealing early on the mound, striking out the side in the first then two more in the second for five strikeouts through two innings.
Â
The momentum seemed to completely swing in the top of the third inning as Lesley was able to capitalize on several LBC errors to put up 11 total runs in the frame, taking an 11-6 lead. The Chargers were able to respond in the bottom of the third, starting with a solo home run from
Harrison Madagan, the first of his career. Witkowski then notched his first career hit with a two-run double to bring LBC back within two. After a scoreless fourth from the Links, Lancaster Bible retook the lead as three different Chargers scored amidst several wild pitches and errors from Lesley. This would be the final scoring of the game as the contest was called due to weather after the top of the sixth, resulting in a 13-11 opening day victory for the home team.
