The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team lost to #15 Rutgers-Newark in straight sets on Wednesday night. The Chargers drop to 10-8 overall while the Scarlet Raiders improve to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in CVC play.
How it Happened: Rutgers-Newark got off to a fast start as they jumped to a 5-2 lead, but a few errors and a service ace from senior 
Elijah Herb tied the game at 5-5. 
Dawson Forney knocked the Chargers' first kill of the night to tie the game at seven all, then a service ace from freshman 
Jake Rotelle kept the game tied at nine. Kills from 
Kevin Koch and Herb kept the score close, but LBC trailed for the remainder of the set. The Scarlet Raiders used a late 9-3 scoring run to close out set one, 25-19.
It was Rutgers-Newark again that jumped out in front, racing to an early 6-1 lead. The Chargers were able to put a quick run together fueled by kills from Forney and 
Hunter Davis to tie the set at 7-7. The Scarlet Raiders proved throughout the middle of the set why they are ranked 15
th in the country as they pulled away and closed out the set, 25-17.
Rotelle and Forney had kills early in the third set in an attempt to keep the Chargers within striking distance. Freshman 
Ben Latham landed a service ace to cut the deficit to three, but Rutgers-Newark rattled off four straight points to pull away in the set. Rotelle had a service ace late in the set, but the Scarlet Raiders finished off set three 25-18 and completed the sweep.

Information to Know: The Chargers are now 1-2 all-time against Rutgers-Newark, also losing last year's matchup against the Scarlet Raiders in Newark, N.J. by a score of 0-3. 
Elijah Herb, with his eight kills tonight, now has the 10
th-most kills in a single season with 244 kills with 12 matches to go this season. Senior 
Tanner Shertzer had a season-high 13 assists tonight.
