Chargers Squeak Out Win over Wildcats

The Lancaster Bible College men's tennis team earned another United East Conference win on Tuesday afternoon in a close 5-4 match with the Penn College Wildcats. The Chargers improve to 11-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference, while the Wildcats fall to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in conference.

How It Happened: The Chargers and Wildcats came away tied at 3-3 all after the conclusion of the singles matches. Five of the six singles matches ended up going to three sets or extra points. The Chargers' first three individuals ended up falling in tough matches, with each featuring a third set or extra points. Senior Malachi Bomgardner was the first Charger to earn himself a win after going to and winning the third set 6-0. Fellow senior AJ Kwiatkowski followed it up with a three-set win himself, beating their No. 5 in the final set 6-3. And Andrew Moore was the game-tying decision, winning a decisive 6-2, 6-1 match.

With a conference win on the line, Devon Clemmer and Josh Jarvis stepped up in the No. 1 doubles slot, winning 8-3. But the Wildcats bounced back with a 8-4 win to tie the series 4-4. Coming down to the wire, the duo of Malachi Bomgardner and Andrew Moore pulled out the clutch 8-1 win and gave the Chargers the match win.

Information to Know: The Chargers currently sit at third overall in the United East rankings behind St. Mary's (Md.) and Penn St. Harrisburg… this is the third season in a row and only third season in program history the Chargers have reached or eclipsed the 11-win mark.

Up Next: The Chargers host their final non-conference match and senior day this Saturday, April 15 at the Hempfield Rec Center at 1:00 p.m.
