Chargers Complete Conference Sweep Over Lions Behind Late Rally

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team earned an 11-10 win over Penn St. Berks after a six-run 7th inning on Monday afternoon. The win completed a 3-0 sweep over the Lions after winning both games of their doubleheader on Friday. The Chargers improve to 11-19 overall and 8-7 in the United East, while the Lions fall to 8-17 overall and 7-8 in conference.

How It Happened: Looking to complete the three-game sweep, the Chargers found themselves down early as the Lions scored three in the first inning. After taking a 4-0 lead in the top of the 2nd, Harrison Hobdy had a solo home run in the bottom of the 2nd inning to get the Chargers on board.

The Chargers tied the game at 4-4 in the 3rd inning when senior Blake Greenly got his first home run of the game, followed by a Brian Coburn score off a passed ball and an Adam Naylor double that sent the tying run home.

The Lions wasted no time though, taking another lead, this time 8-4 through six innings. The Chargers managed to score one run in the sixth as freshman Evan Sareyka made a run to home off a passed ball, but it was the 7th inning that proved instrumental in the Chargers' rally. Down 8-5, it was a monster two-run home run from Sareyka that brought the game to within one run. As the momentum began to shift towards the Chargers, Lucas McCormick scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 8-8. Greenly had the final say though, sending a three-run home run to center field to give the Chargers their first lead of the game, 11-8 and ultimately the winning runs. The Lions looked to rally in the remaining two innings, but the Chargers held them off to complete the sweep and earn their seventh conference win.
