Chargers Run to 23-18 Win Over Rosemont Behind Toney’s Four Homers

The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team hosted non-conference Rosemont Ravens on Monday afternoon in what was a shootout from the start. The Chargers won 23-18 and improve to 13-22 overall and are 9-9 in conference. The Ravens drop to 15-14 overall and 7-5 in the CSAC.

How It Happened: After the Ravens put two runs across due to a home run in the top of the 1st inning, the Chargers answered with eight of their own 1st-inning runs. It began with a grand slam from senior James Toney, his first of the game. Junior Adam Naylor singled to left field, scoring Evan Sareyka, then Dylan Witkowski added his own three-run homer to bring the Charger lead to 8-2.

The Chargers scored three more runs in the 2nd inning as Toney hit his second home run of the game, this time a solo shot, and Naylor doubled to bring in Sareyka once more. Sophomore Harrison Madagan also scored on the hit by Naylor due to a Ravens throwing error. The Ravens added one in the 3rd inning, but the Chargers stayed hot. Senior Blake Greenly singled to bring in Witkowski, then Coburn singled to bring in Greenly. Toney singled to bring in Coburn, and Sareyka capped off the singles streak with a two-run home run to make it 16-3.

Finding the score at 17-11 headed into the bottom of the 6th inning, senior James Toney sent his third home run to right field, bringing in two others with him to make it 20-11. Madagan followed it up with a solo shot of his own to left center, making it 21-11.  Rosemont used a homer in the 7th to bring it to 21-14, but Toney and Madagan again sent home runs back-to-back to make it 23-14. Rosemont looked to rally, scoring four runs in the 9th, but the Chargers finished out the non-conference win 23-18 as 12 home runs were hit on the evening.

By the Numbers: The Chargers garnered 19 hits for 23 runs and 21 RBIs while picking up 10 walks… the Ravens had 18 hits for 18 runs and 16 RBIs with eight walks… James Toney went 5-6 with five hits, four of which were home runs, totaling 10 RBIs… Evan Sareyka grabbed four hits and two RBIs, while Witkowski had two hits and three RBIs… Madagan had two home runs for the game and Brian Coburn had three stolen bases… McCormick, Palladino, and Gerner all had three hits each for the Ravens… Nehemiah Brubacher got the win on the mound, allowing only two hits in three innings, his first win of the season.
