Chargers and Eagles Combine for 37 Runs, Chargers Pull Out 20-17 Victory

The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team squared off against the visiting Juniata Eagles on Thursday afternoon, winning an offensive outburst 20-17. The Chargers improve to 5-17 on the year while the Eagles fall to 4-17.

How It Happened: It'd look grim for the Chargers from the start as the Eagles sent in 10 total runs after just two innings of play. Down a steep deficit, the Chargers placed their rally caps on, beginning with a Harrison Hobdy single that brought home Harrison Madagan and James Toney. With two on the board now, the Chargers started to get things going as Evan Sareyka hit his first home run of his career, bringing in two runs to make it 10-4 after two full innings of play.

The next inning the Chargers found some ore relief as Brian Coburn and Toney scored on separate passed balls. Madagan scored another run off a wild pitch, and a hard-hit line drive from Kaden Hunt brought in Hobdy making it a 10-8 ballgame. Senior Blake Greenly didn't let it rest there either, hitting a double to center field scoring Dylan Witkowski and Benji Brubacher and ultimately tying the game at 10-10.

With momentum on their side now, the Chargers' offensive outburst poured into the 4th inning as Toney started off the lineup with a solo blast to center field, giving the Chargers their first lead of the game. Brubacher sent a single through the left side, scoring Hobdy, and a Hunt single scored Sareyka to give the Chargers a 13-10 lead. Witkowski proceeded to hit a triple, bringing in Hunt and Brubacher, then Coburn returned the favor with a single of his own to score Witkowski. After four innings of play, the Chargers led 16-10.

The Eagles managed to put one on the board in the 5th inning. Two home runs in the 7th inning from the Chargers put their lead to 20-11. Greenly hit a solo shot, then Sareyka hit his second of the game, bringing in three more RBIs. The game didn't end there though, as the Eagles made one last push in the 9th, scoring six total runs, but ultimately fell short and the Chargers won 20-17.

By the Numbers: The Chargers had 18 total hits on the day, including 20 runs and 15 RBIs… the Eagles had 12 hits on the day with 17 runs and 14 RBIs… the Chargers struck out 12 batters while the Eagles had 10 strikeouts… Sareyka went 2-4 with two home runs and a game-high five RBIs… Greenly went 3-6 with three RBIs… Brubacher, Hobdy, Madagan, Toney, Coburn, and Witkowski all had two hits each… Dakotah Snyder had a team-high three hits and four RBIs for the Eagles.
