Field Hockey Falls to Hood College

The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team took on the Blazers of Hood College on Monday afternoon, losing 0-3 after a surge of second-half offense. The Chargers move to 1-2 overall while the Blazers are 2-2 overall.

How it Happened: Hood College pressed early with three penalty corners and a few shots, but the Charger defense held intact through the first nine minutes. LBC had a good stop and push up the field about nine minutes in, but could not capitalize. Both defenses held until the end of the quarter, leading to a 0-0 game after 15 minutes of play.

The Chargers had the first push of the second period, controlling the first few minutes. Hood was able to shift down the field and fire a pair of shots, but both missed and the Chargers regrouped. The Blazers kept up the pressure, with Amanda Hoover making some good saves in goal to keep them off the board. LBC made a break with less than four minutes before half, with Molly Gray putting a shot on goal and drawing a penalty corner. Alexis Gilbert took a shot off the corner that was blocked, then the teams traded sides of the field until the clock hit zero, bringing the half to a close at a scoreless draw.

LBC drew the first corner of the second half, but the Blazers responded by finding the back of the net in the 35th minute to break the tie and take a 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Hood ran the field and scored another goal to create some separation at 2-0. The teams then traded possession for the remainder of the quarter, with the Chargers trailing by two with 15 minutes to go.

The ball went back and forth throughout the first half of the final period, with Hood taking several shots that missed. The Blazers added another goal in the 55th minute on a nice feed inside to further extend the deficit. This brought the clock down to the final buzzer with a 3-0 loss for the Chargers.

By the Numbers:
- The Blazers outshot Lancaster Bible 14-2 and held a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.
- Juniors Molly Gray and Alexis Gilbert each had a shot.
- Sophomore goalie Amanda Hoover made three saves in goal, while Hood's Richana Brown had one save.

Information to Know: This was the fifth all-time matchup between the two programs, meeting every eligible season since the Chargers reinstituted field hockey in 2018. Alexis Gilbert now has 25 career shots, currently the 6th-most in program history (since 2018).

Up Next: The Chargers have another home game on Wednesday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m. as they host Goucher College.
