The Lancaster Bible field hockey team fell to Immaculata 5-0 in their first road game of the season. The Chargers now drop to 1-4 on the year and will not see a conference opponent for another month. Meanwhile, the Mighty Macs move up to a 2-4 record, also yet to play a conference game.
How It Happened: The Chargers struggled to gain their footing in the first quarter, and the Mighty Macs were able to capitalize, putting up a total of ten shots. Lancaster Bible's goalie
Amanda Hoover put up an impressive five saves in the first quarter, but unfortunately, Immaculata scored three and started with an early 3-0 lead. In the second quarter, the Chargers' defense was much stingier, allowing just three shots on goal, two of which Hoover was able to save, but Immaculata put one in the back of net, taking a 4-0 lead going into the second half.
The Chargers came out in the second half eager to score, and senior
Kayla Willing got the first shot on goal for Lancaster Bible which was saved by Immaculata's goalie. After the Mighty Macs fought back with two shots of their own,
Riley Danko got another shot on target for the Chargers. The Lancaster Bible defense still held strong in the third quarter, allowing a total of three shots on goal, all of which were saved by Hoover. After an impressive quarter for the Chargers, the Mighty Macs came roaring into the final quarter and scored their fifth goal just five minutes into the fourth quarter. Danko had another shot on goal in a last-ditch effort, but the Chargers could not overcome Immaculata as they lost 0-5.
By the Numbers: Riley Danko and
Kayla Willing led the Chargers with two and one shots on goal, respectively.
Amanda Hoover had an impressive outing, getting 13 saves for Lancaster Bible. The Mighty Macs outshot the Chargers 25-3. Immaculata was led by Lauren Vandenbraak who had two goals on eight shots.
Information to Know: This is the fourth meeting between the two squads, and Immaculata now moves to 4-0 all-time against Lancaster Bible. Hoover posted a season-high in saves so far this year with 13. This was also Willing's first look at the net so far this year.
