The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team traveled to Southern Virginia this weekend to compete against both Sweet Briar on Friday and Southern Virginia on Saturday. The Chargers split the two contests on their Virginia road trip, losing to Sweet Briar 3-1 then beating Southern Virginia 3-0. The Chargers move to 2-5 overall while Sweet Briar improves to 3-4 overall and Southern Virginia falls to 0-4 on the year.

How It Happened: Sweet Briar started early, managing to score their first goal of the game just over four minutes in. Despite the early start, the Chargers didn't let up another goal in the first period. However, the Chargers let up two more goals to the Vixens, one in the second period and one in the third period.

Junior
Alyssa Hamilton answered the third goal with one of her own just before the end of the period. It was her first goal of 2023. Neither team allowed another goal resulting in a 3-1 win for the Vixens.

By the Numbers: The Vixens outshot the Chargers 25-4 with 14 of those shots being on goal…
Amanda Hoover had a spectacular game, registering 10 total saves while
Haley Stahl tallied a defensive save… the Vixens had six penalty corners to the Chargers three corners.

Information to Know: In the Chargers' seven contests with the Vixens in program history, every game has been decided by three goals or less… the Chargers' lone win over the Vixens came on September 6, 2019 where they won 2-0 at home.

How It Happened:Â The Chargers came out quickly in this game as
Molly Gray was able to score just under six minutes in. The Knights came back with a shot that missed wide, and Gray got another shot on target that was saved. In the second quarter, Gray scored again just a minute and a half into the period. Southern Virginia had a good look at the net, but
Amanda Hoover came away with her first save of the match.
Riley Danko kept up the pressure for the Chargers, but unfortunately could not connect on either of her two shots as Lancaster Bible entered halftime up 2-0.

Danko got another shot on goal within the first minute of the second half that was saved by the Knights' goalie. The Chargers' defense held strong, not allowing a shot in the entire third quarter. This trend continued for Lancaster Bible in the fourth quarter as well. Danko started off the fourth quarter with another shot on goal, but after her first being saved, she put another shot on target that saw the back of the net late in the fourth quarter. The Chargers came out victorious outscoring the Knights three to zero.

Riley Danko's first goal in her collegiate career after an impressive night. Danko also becomes the 18th player since the program was reintroduced in 2018 to score a goal for the Chargers.
Molly Gray now leads the team in goals on the season with three after scoring two against the Knights.
