The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team won their second straight game of the 2023 season with a convincing 4-0 win over the Mighty Macs of Immaculata on Sunday afternoon. The Chargers improve to 2-0 on the season while the Mighty Macs drop to 0-1-1.
How It Happened: Despite the intense heat of Sunday afternoon, both teams managed to make several offensive attacks that came up unsuccessful in the first twenty minutes. It wasn't until around the 22-minute mark when freshman
Haley Moyer took control of the ball and dribbled it up the left sideline that she was able to slot a hard-hit shot into the top right hand corner of the net. This was the first goal of the game, giving the Chargers an early 1-0 lead, and the first goal of Moyer's collegiate career.
Following a water break, the Mighty Macs sought a goal of their own, but fell just short as a shot rocketed off the crossbar. The Chargers, however, struck again as junior
Jade Weir placed a perfect pass to the right side of the box for senior
Kendal Ream to score her first goal of the game and fourth of the season. This sent the Chargers to halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The Chargers took no break as they sent offensive attack after attack with several shots on goal. Despite the Mighty Macs' goalie making tremendous save after save, the Chargers' persistency was too much as Ream scored her second goal of the game on an assist from fellow forward
Rachel Dickinson twelve minutes into the second half, extending the Charger lead to 3-0.
As if that wasn't enough, Ream had one more goal in the tank, scoring her third goal of the game just over four minutes later. This was Ream's second hat trick in a row as she scored three goals in a 4-0 win over Rosemont on Friday. This would be the last goal of the game as the teams traded shots for the remainder of the time and the Chargers completed a 4-0 shutout for their second win of the season.
From the Coach: "We had an excellent start to the game and I thought we did a nice job dictating the play in the first half. I am excited for the contributions we're getting from a lot of girls. Hopefully we can ride the momentum as we have a quick turnaround Tuesday night on the road."
By the Numbers: The Chargers edged out the Mighty Macs in shots 16-15, with 11 of those shots being in the second half... the Chargers nabbed 10 saves while the Mighty Macs finished with seven saves... both teams tallied one corner for the game... Ream had three goals... Moyer had one goal... Weir and Dicksinon both had an assist.
Information to Know: This marks the first time the Chargers have started the season 2-0 in program history... this was also the first time a Chargers women's soccer player has scored back-to-back hat tricks in program history.
