The 2024 Lancaster Bible College Men's Volleyball season kicks off on Saturday at Horst Athletic Center, as the Chargers host Eastern and fourth-ranked Southern Virginia. The 21
st season in program history will feature a mix of familiar faces and new ones, as Lancaster Bible looks to repeat as conference champions.
Â
Lancaster Bible won the 2023 Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship to cap off a season that saw the team go 21-10 overall, including an unblemished 8-0 mark in conference matches.
Elijah Herb, last year's leader in kills, graduated, but
Dawson Forney,
Hunter Davis, and
Jake Rotelle, who ranked second, third, and fourth on the team in kills, all return, as does sophomore setter
Christian Herr, who had 964 assists a year ago.
Â
Davis returns for another season with the Chargers, as his leadership will guide 21 players on this year's squad. In addition to being third on the team last season with 194 kills, Davis also added 37 aces and a team-high 103 total blocks. For his efforts, Davis was named CSAC Defensive Player of the Year and was a CSAC First Team All-Conference selection. The CSAC All-Conference Teams were littered with Lancaster Bible players a year ago, as Herr also earned first team honors, along with Herb and
Tanner Shertzer who graduated. Forney and Rotelle was second team honorees, while Head Coach
Jade Brubaker was named CSAC Coach of the Year.
Â
The CSAC and United East Conference merged over the summer, so like the rest of Lancaster Bible's teams, the 2024 men's volleyball team will look to capture the United East Championship. Before the Chargers begin their quest to repeat, they will play against several of the top teams in the country in non-conference action. In addition to facing the fourth-ranked Knights on opening weekend, Lancaster Bible will also battle sixth-ranked Vassar and top-ranked Stevens on Jan. 27 and also take on 20
th-ranked Marymount (Va.) twice, the first coming on Jan. 31 at Horst Athletic Center. Lancaster Bible will face 12
th-ranked Cal Lutheran on Feb. 3, followed by a showdown with 14
th-ranked Messiah on Feb. 10 in Lancaster.
Â
The Chargers, who posted the program's fourth 20-win season a year ago, will begin United East play on March 12 with an away match at Valley Forge and then host Pratt Institute (Mar. 16) and Wilson (Mar. 20) to continue a five-match stretch of conference play. The regular season and conference play wrap-up on April 6 at Bryn Athyn. The United East Playoffs will be the next week, as the top two seeds will host the semifinals on Apr. 9, followed by the United East Championship at the top remaining seed on Saturday, Apr. 13.
