Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Hunter Gerber

Men's Basketball Roars Past Lions

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Basketball team hosted their final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday night, beating Penn St. Brandywine 98-35 after holding the Lions to just 18 first half points. The Chargers improve to 10-8 overall while the Lions fall to 4-10 overall.

How It Happened: Neither team found the scoreboard until two minutes into the game when senior Seth Beers got a layup to go, giving the Chargers an early lead. Graduate Student Ty Erisman scored a layup off an assist from senior Grant Sareyka to make it 4-0 before the Lions scored a layup of their own for their first points of the game. Sareyka proceeded to score the next 25 of the Chargers' 30 points, including five first half three-pointers in just ten minutes of play.

Perhaps just as impressive was the Chargers defense holding the visiting Lions to just nine points with six minutes left in the first half. In those final six minutes, the Chargers hit four more three-pointers to contribute to the team's 17 three-pointers made on the night. Freshman Trey Grube finished with two three-pointers in those few minutes while freshman Jasir Johnson and senior Jordan Praylow each added one of their own. While the Chargers continued to shine offensively, the Lions started to get things going as well, scoring nine points to end the half off a three-pointer of their own and several made free throws.

The second half was much of the same as Beers got things going with a three followed by buckets from Sareyka and freshman Daniel King, making it a 63-22 Charger lead. Sophomore Luke Rumbaugh caught wind, scoring eight straight points including two and-one's to bring the lead to 71-25. The Chargers offense continued to fire on all cylinders as Tyshaun Pulley sunk two mid-range jumpers and Jalen Glasgow scored an acrobatic layup to bring the lead to 77-25 with over 11 minutes to go. Continuing to move the ball offensively and get stops defensively, the Chargers went on to secure the win 98-35, only giving up 17 second half points.

By the Numbers: The Chargers went 44-percent from the field and 34-percent (17-49) from three… the Lions were held to 20-percent from the field and 21-percent from three… the Chargers finished with 24 team assists and just six turnovers while forcing 22 total turnovers… the Chargers also grabbed 17 offensive rebounds, converting them for 21 second-chance points while their bench outscored the Lions 47-17.

Information to Know: The Lions' 35 points is tied for the fewest points allowed in a game since 2006 when the Chargers beat Washington Bible 113-35… the 63-point win is the fourth largest margin of victory in program history… Sareyka's 32-point outing is his fifth game with 30 or more points… this was Beers' tenth game with five or more assists this season. Beers also notched his 350th career assist tonight, bringing him to 353 on his career and 3rd in program history.

Up Next: The Chargers travel to United East foe Penn St. Harrisburg this Saturday, January 20. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
