The Lancaster Bible College Chargers took on the Penn St. Brandywine Lions on Wednesday evening. The Chargers dropped their non-conference contest with a final score of 65-45, moving to 5-11 overall while the Lions now sit 6-8 overall. The Chargers are next in action on Saturday when they travel to nearby rival Penn St. Harrisburg for a 3:00 p.m. start time following the men's action.Â
How It Happened: The Chargers jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game. Amanda Floyd sank a three-pointer at the 6:38 mark to start Brandywine on an 11-0 run. With 50 seconds left in the quarter, Kiara Koger put in two quick jumpers to extend Brandywine's lead to 15-8 to end the quarter.Â
The second quarter saw the Chargers and Lions trading baskets back and forth before the Chargers strung together six points with two jumpers from Jenna Dombach split by a Raven Hunter layup. Penn State added a jumper and another Amanda Floyd three to bring the score to 34-21 heading into halftime. Â
The Lions opened the second half with four points before Raven Hunter secured a layup. The Lions responded with a layup of their own before Hunter and Jenna Dombach scored layups in back-to-back possessions. Athena Brombacher scored the next eight points of the game, pushing the Lions lead to 48-28. In the last two minutes of the third quarter, the Chargers combined for eight points, including an exciting last-second three from Shelby Gard, while keeping the Lions scoreless.Â
Scoring in the fourth quarter started a little slower for both teams before Penn State secured a jumper, followed by another Shelby Gard three. Madison Timberlake added three points late and Brooke Graham landed a jumper with six seconds remaining to close out the game with a final score of 65-45 in favor of the Lions.Â

Information To Know: This is the sixth time the Chargers and Lions have gone head-to-head, with the Lions holding a 5-1 advantage. The lone victory for the Chargers came in the last matchup on November 12, 2018, in the Horst Athletic Center when the Chargers came away with the victory 62-55. It was announced earlier this month that Penn St. Brandywine will be joining the United East Conference beginning July 1, 2024, so the next time Lancaster Bible and Penn St. Brandywine face off, it will be for conference play. Sophomore Raven Hunter surpassed 200 points on the season with a team-high 15 in today's game and continued to pile on the blocks with three, making her second in the United East with 35 blocks and 2.3 blocks per game.
