Men’s Basketball Run Past Bison for Fifth Conference Win

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Basketball team hosted United East Conference foe, the Gallaudet Bison, on Wednesday night winning 93-65. Led by senior Grant Sareyka and freshman Connor Storr, the Chargers improve to 11-9 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The Bison fall to 2-17 on the year and 1-6 in conference.
 
How It Happened: The Chargers went up 5-0 early after Sareyka hit a corner three on the first possession of the game followed by a layup from Storr. The Bison battled back bringing it to with three points, 11-8. Catching their groove though, the Chargers proceeded to score 23 points in just five minutes of play capitalized by Storr hammering home a right-handed dunk. The Bison continued to try to chip away getting a three-pointer and some free throws to go before sophomore Nile Austin scored five straight points to give the Chargers their largest lead of the game at 41-17.
 
The Bison managed to tack on another 14 points in the remaining seven minutes of the first half while five points from Sareyka to close the first half, both assisted from senior Seth Beers, brought the halftime lead to 54-31.
 
Opening the second half, Storr got a steal at mid-court and his second fastbreak dunk of the night to bring the lead to 25. The Bison continued to try and play catch up with the Chargers getting several points in the paint to go, but the Chargers were just one step ahead as back-to-back three pointers from Sareyka and senior Jordan Praylow brought it to a 28-point lead. Keeping distance throughout the second half, a late jumper from freshman Trey Grube gave the Chargers their largest lead of the game at 93-61 with just 1:37 left to go. The Chargers went on to secure their fifth conference win of the season 93-65.
 
By the Numbers: The Chargers shot an even 50-percent (36-72) from the field while going 38-percent (13-34) from three and 66-percent (8-12) from the free throw line… the Bison shot 43-percent (23-53) from the field, 33-percent (5-15) from three, and 66-percent (14-21) from the line… the Chargers finished with 25 assists and just 12 turnovers while turning over the Bison 23 times… they had 24 points off those turnovers and 40 points in the paint… Sareyka had a game-high 26 points on 9-15 shooting while Storr added 22 points and six rebounds… Nile Austin, Trey Grube, and Maureon Tisdale-Couch each had eight points a piece… the Bison were led by Blessed Mbogo with 23 points.

Information to Know: The Chargers are now 17-9 all-time against Gallaudet and have won eight straight matchups over the Bison dating back to 2020. Senior Grant Sareyka tallied 26 points tonight, improving him to 7th on the all-time scoring list and passing Drew Karschner ('07) to bring the total to 1,490 points. Sareyka also drained five 3-pointers today, jumping into 3rd place all-time for the Chargers with 180 made threes and passing Billy Harrison ('09).
