The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team grabbed their third straight victory on Tuesday night over the Haverford Fords, 60-50. The win was a full team effort as
Jenna Dombach poured in 19 points while
Serene Calderon had 17. The Chargers improve to 3-1 overall while the Fords drop to 2-2 overall.
How It Happened: The separation wouldn't begin to happen until the second quarter after the Chargers found themselves down 17-13 after one quarter of play. A 13-0 run capitalized by two three-pointers from Calderon and another from Dombach stole the show in second quarter to take a commanding 26-17 lead. The Fords managed to work the deficit back down to five just before the half, 30-25.
The Fords tied the game at 34-34 about halfway through the third quarter, but the resilience once again showed for the Chargers as they climbed to another big lead behind a three-pointer from
Isabella Eufemia and layup from
Keilani Araniva. The Chargers entered the last quarter to play ahead 45-36.
An and-one and back-to-back layups from Dombach pushed the lead to as much as 16 points as the Fords tried to claw their way back. It was the Chargers who proved to be too much as they went on to win 60-50.
From the Coach: "It was our preparation and attention to detail that shined tonight," said Head Coach
Kel Brown.
"We knew exactly what they were going to do when we stepped on the floor and we executed the way we were supposed to. When we didn't, it was our grit that showed up bigtime. We're building something!"
By the Numbers: The Chargers shot 40-percent from the field, 25-percent from three, and 72-percent from the free throw line… the Fords shot 35-percent from the field and 15-percent from the three… the Chargers had 17 points off turnovers and dished out 11 assists… Dombach had a game-high 19 points and went 8-8 from the line… Calderon had 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists… Caroline Orza had 15 for the Fords.
