The Lancaster Bible College Men's Volleyball team lost both matches on Saturday against two tough non-conference squads in #4 California Lutheran and Arcadia. The Chargers fall to 3-7 overall with eight more non-conference contests before opening United East Conference play for the first time in program history.
vs. #4 Cal Lutheran, 3-0 Loss (14-25; 16-25; 17-25)
The Chargers battled tough but were overpowered in just three sets against the Kingsmen. Opening the first set of the day, the Chargers went ahead 6-3 behind kills from
Zeke Clark,
Christian Herr, and
Nicholas Marion. The Kingsmen managed to tie the game at 11-11 and take the lead from there. A 10-0 run from the California natives sparked a 25-14 first set win giving momentum towards the following two sets.
By the Numbers: The Chargers racked up 21 kills and four aces to go along with four blocks and 21 digs… the Kingsmen tallied 44 digs with seven blocks and 39 digs…
Hunter Davis, Clark, and Marion all had four kills each… Herr dished out 11 assists and had eight digs… Michael Stahl and Jordan Cooper led the Kingsmen with 18 and 14 kills respectively.
vs. Arcadia, 3-0 Loss (20-25; 19-25; 18-25)
Looking to bounce back against the host, the Knights were the first to go ahead with an early 5-2 lead. The Chargers rebounded to take the lead 6-5 with points form Herr and two aces from
Jake Rotelle. The two squads traded points, but a Knights' 6-1 run pushed their lead to 20-13, ultimately winning the first set. The Knights proceeded to take a 13-5 and 18-11 second and third set advantage as the Chargers couldn't quite work their way back leading their second loss of the day.
By the Numbers: The Chargers had 29 kills and 24 digs… the Knights tallied 36 kills with eight aces and five blocks… Rotelle led the Chargers with eight kills and two aces… Herr dished out 25 assists… Josh Clendening and Andrew Ahn had a game high 10 kills each for the Knights.
