The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team defeated Penn St. Berks 77-58 on Wednesday night, making it three straight United East wins. The Chargers improve to 8-14 overall and 6-5 in conference play, while the Lions drop to 1-20 overall and 0-11 in United East play.
Â
How it Happened:
Berks started the scoring with the first four points, with the Chargers ending the drought two and a half minutes in with an
Alaysha Iwais layup.
Raven Hunter scored the next four for LBC, then a deep
Jenna Dombach jumper capped off a 14-2 run to give the Chargers the lead. The Lions fought back within three with a minute to go to leave LBC with a 16-13 lead after one period.
Â
Dombach had a layup on a fast-break to open the second quarter, then a jumper from
Faith Hammond extended the lead to eight. The teams went bucket-for-bucket for the next few minutes before Iwais hit the Chargers' first 3-pointer of the game to make the score 29-18. Layups from
Isabella Eufemia and Dombach kept the lead at double-digits, then Hammond found Iwais for a deep two to give LBC their largest lead of the half at 13, with the Chargers going into halftime up 35-24.
Â
Just like the second, Dombach started the third quarter scoring, then
Rachel Nolt found the bucket twice for four points to make it a 16-point lead. Dombach connected on her first of three 3-pointers with five minutes left, then Berks hit a three to cut the deficit to eight. Hammond and Hunter made shots to boost it back, then Dombach drained another three with two seconds left to put LBC up 15 heading into the final quarter.
Â
It was once again Dombach who went on a tear, scoring the first 11 for the Chargers and making it 14 straight points to launch the lead up to 23 points, then Iwais hit another jumper to cap off a 19-2 scoring run to open up the game. The Lions responded with an eight-point run of their own to bring it back to 17, but
Shelby Gard sunk a pair of free throws and Coach Carpenter emptied the bench for the last few minutes.
Cici Mann and
Brooke Graham both scored to close out the 19-point home victory for the Chargers.
