The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team earned their first United East Conference win of the season over the Penn College Wildcats in a nine-inning thriller as sophomore
Dylan Witkowski hit a grand slam in the eighth inning to win 11-10. The Chargers improve to 7-4 overall and 1-0 in conference while the Wildcats fall to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in conference.
How It Happened: It was all Wildcats through the first three innings as they took an early 4-0 lead. The Chargers didn't find the scoreboard until the bottom of the third inning when freshman
Nick Colarossi hit a two-run shot to bring the deficit to within two runs, 4-2.
Continuing to trade runs, the Chargers were able to even the game at 6-6 after a big seventh inning.
Malachi Sloane scored for the second time on the day after a wild pitch hit the backstop.
Blake Greenly earned a walk which brought in
Jack Nance and
Brian Coburn reached on a fielder's choice to score Colarossi.
The rally was short-lived however as the Wildcats scored four runs to reclaim the lead, 10-6. Their first United East game of the season on the line, the Chargers came up big in the eighth inning with a Nance double to left center that brought in teammate
Harrison Madagan. Bases loaded and facing a three-run deficit, it was a perfect scenario for the next batter and sophomore
Dylan Witkowski, answering the call and sending a shot over the fence to clear the bases and score the winning run.
One big play after another, Greenly got on the mound in the top of the ninth, retiring the first three batters to secure the 11-10 comeback victory.
By the Numbers: The Chargers finished with eight hits for 11 runs and 10 RBIs… the Wildcats had 12 hits for 10 runs and 10 RBIs…
Malachi Sloane and Colarossi had two hits each… Witkowski had a team-high four RBIs… Witkowski, Sloane, and Colarossi all had a home run… Greenly and Coburn struck out nine batters and Greenly earned the win for his second of the season (2-1)… Griess went 4-4 for the Wildcats.
