Baseball Completes Sweep of Penn College Behind Great Pitching

The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team played games two and three of their first conference double-header against Penn College on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Park in Milersville, Pa., winning both games by scores of 3-2 and 10-0 to sweep out the 'Cats. The Chargers improve to 9-4 overall and 3-0 in the United East, while the Wildcats drop to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Game 1: 3-2 Win

How it Happened:
The Chargers drew two walks in the first inning but failed to score, then in the second inning Harrison Hobdy drew a walk and Josh Hudson singled to move him to third. Hobdy then scored on a wild pitch to give LBC the 1-0 advantage. Then in the third Penn College tied the game up at 1-1, then loaded the bases with two outs, but pitcher Andrew Workman recorded the strikeout to end the threat.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, a familiar sequence of Hobdy drawing a walk and a Hudson single put runners on for Evan Sareyka, hitting a two-run single to right field to put the Chargers back in front 3-1. Workman got into a jam in the seventh inning after allowing two hits, then Bronson Coburn came on in relief, only allowing one run and earning the save as Lancaster Bible took game one on the day 3-2.

- Starting pitcher Andrew Workman earned his first victory of the season after six innings pitched, allowing two runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts
Game 2: 10-0 Win (8 innings)

How it Happened:
Lancaster Bible struck first in the bottom of the third inning after Shane Stephan drew a walk and later advanced to third on a throwing error. Brian Coburn grounded out to bring Stephan home, putting LBC up 1-0. In the fourth inning, Nick Colarossi laid down a bunt to load the bases, then Harrison Madagan grounded into a fielder's choice that turned into an error that brought two runs in, making it 3-0. It was Thade Hauge that lined a single up the middle to score Madagan, putting the Chargers up by four.

The Chargers rallied again in the fifth inning to load the bases, then Owen Shimmel hit a sacrifice fly to score a run. Colarossi laid down another bunt, this time to help score Hobdy from third to give LBC a 6-0 lead. Jack Nance capped off the rally with an RBI single to make it a seven-run game.

The seventh inning featured a sacrifice fly from Colarossi to score Hobdy, the eighth run of the game. The Chargers put the nail in the coffin in the eighth as Stephan knocked an RBI single down the line and Hauge scored on an error, ending the game in eight as the Chargers won 10-0 and completed the conference sweep.
