The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team earned another thrilling 17-16 win over Albright College on Tuesday night, this time winning from a game-winning sacrifice fly from sophomore
Dylan Witkowski that scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. The Chargers keep the streak alive, getting their eighth win in a row and improving to 10-4 overall. The Lions fall to 3-8 overall.
How It Happened: After three innings of play the Chargers lead grew to 7-0 lead as
Evan Sareyka held the Lions scoreless and the Chargers bats kept alive. It wasn't until the fifth inning that the Lions came alive, sending three home runs over the fence and knocking in six total runs.
With both teams starting to battle it out, it was the Lions who took control in the sixth inning after a two-run home run put them up 9-8. The Chargers responded as
Josh Hudson put down a near perfect sacrifice bunt that scored freshman
Nick Colarossi. Now tied, the Lions took another 13-10 lead, but the Chargers marched right back in the eighth inning to even the game as Witkowski sent a huge three-run shot over the fence. Just a week after his game-winning grand slam in the eighth inning that paced the Chargers over Penn College in game one.
With one more inning to play, the Lions took advantage of the opportunity, scoring three more runs to enter the last side of the game 16-13. It was the Chargers' offense that came up clutch once again, beginning with sophomore
Jack Nance's double down the third base line that sparked the Charger dugout. Colarossi brought home Nance on a single to short to bring the deficit to 16-14. Freshman
Shane Stephan followed suit scoring
Harrison Hobdy and
Brian Coburn reached on an error due to a hard hit ground ball that scored
Daniel Yoder. With the winning run at third and the game on the line, Witkowski did it again, sending a fly ball to right center field that gave Colarossi just enough time to tag up and cross home plate giving the Chargers another 17-16 win.
