The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team picked up two wins on Tuesday afternoon over a familiar foe in fellow United East member Saint Elizabeth Eagles. The Chargers won game one by a close margin, 11-9 before sophomore
Evan Sareyka pitched a shutout in game two for an 8-0 win. The Chargers sit at an even .500 now improving to 4-4 overall while the Eagles fall to 1-6 on the season.
Game One, 11-9 Win
How It Happened: It was the Eagles who opened the day scoring two runs in the top of the 1
st inning. The Chargers responded with two home runs from
Evan Sareyka and
Harrison Madagan, taking their first lead of the day 3-2. Keeping pace offensively, the Chargers scored three more runs to make it 6-2 after just two innings of play. Despite the Chargers staying ahead, the Eagles were right at their heels heading into the bottom of the 6
th inning with a 9-7 lead. Back-to-back home runs from
Blake Greenly and
Harrison Hobdy pushed the lead to 11-7, but a late Eagles rally wasn't enough as the Chargers won 11-9.
By the Numbers: The Chargers tallied 13 hits for 11 runs and 10 RBIs… the Eagles had 11 hits for nine runs and 10 RBIs… Greenly had a game-high four hits going 4-4 with two RBIs… Madagan and
Dylan Witkowski also had two RBIs… Deal had three hits for the Eagles… the Chargers had four players with a home run and four players with stolen bases…
Brian Coburn got the win on the mound, striking out four.
Game Two, 8-0 Win
How It Happened: It was a team effort in the second game as five different players brought in seven runs. It was
Owen Shimmel that got things started for the Chargers, hitting a double to bring in Witkowski. Madagan,
Josh Hudson,
Shane Stephan, and Witkowski all tallied hits to bring in a run. A community effort from the plate, it was sophomore
Evan Sareyka that shined on the mound, pitching all seven innings only allowing five hits, walking one batter, and striking out three others to complete the Chargers' first shutout of the season.
By the Numbers: The Chargers had 13 hits for eight runs and seven RBIs… the Eagles had five hits… Witkowski tallied three hits for two runs and one RBI… Greenly, Shimmel, Madagan, and Colarossi all tallied two hits each… the Chargers had another four players with stolen bases… Sareyka got his first win of the season on the mound.
