The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team is hosting the Lions of Penn St. Harrisburg this weekend for a three-game United East Conference series. The Lions took game one on Friday by a score of 13-3 in seven innings of play. The Chargers fall to 15-10-1 overall and 7-5-1 in conference while the Lions improve to 20-7 overall and 7-0 in conference.
How It Happened: A monster second inning including three total home runs and poor defense by the Chargers put the Lions ahead 9-0. Adding another two-run shot in the fifth inning, the Lions led 11-0 after five innings of play. The Chargers found their first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when
Thade Hauge solo homered to left field, bringing the deficit to 11-1.
The offensive prowess continued for the Lions as they added two more runs in the sixth inning to bring the total to 13 runs scored. Looking for any momentum they could find, the Chargers scored two in the bottom of the sixth as
Blake Greenly scored off a passed ball and
Evan Sareyka doubled to bring in
Brian Coburn, but it wasn't enough as the Lions won in seven innings 13-3.
The Chargers will look to regroup and bounce back tomorrow at Cooper Park for a double-header with the Lions.
By the Numbers: The Chargers had four hits for three runs and two RBIs… the Chargers had nine hits for 13 runs and 11 RBIs… Hauge, Greenly, and Sareyka had the lone hits for the Chargers… Sassaman and Irizarry had two hits each for the Lions… Eden got the win on the mound for Harrisburg (4-1) while Coburn got the lost (2-2).
Up Next: The Chargers will play the Lions in a double-header tomorrow, April 13 at Cooper Park in Millersville, Pa. at 12:00 and 3:00 p.m.
